"Women on the Field": AXA Equips 50 Women's Teams at Amateur Rugby Clubs Across France
They tackle, they push in the scrum, they get back up and keep going. Every weekend, thousands of women bring amateur rugby to life with passion. Yet women’s rugby still often lacks resources and visibility. It is for these players—true women of the field—that AXA launched the “Femmes de Terrain” initiative.
The number one fan of women's rugby in France
As a partner of the French Women’s National Rugby Team through 2028 and the title sponsor of the AXA Élite 1 league, AXA already supports women’s rugby at the highest level. With “Femmes de Terrain,” the insurer complements this professional approach with a local focus to make the sport more accessible throughout France.
A success that exceeded all expectations
The initiative was originally intended to provide equipment for 40 women’s teams. However, more than 1,000 people registered their clubs, and more than 90% of clubs with at least one competitive women’s team applied. In light of this success, AXA added 10 more clubs, bringing the total to 50 clubs that will be equipped for the 2026–2027 season.
A Gilbert grant of 3,500 euros per club
Each senior women’s team receives 23 full uniforms and 15 protective helmets; the club receives 5 balls; and the volunteers receive tracksuits. The helmets and balls are tangible evidence of AXA’s support, which helps promote the sport and ensure the players’ safety.
AXA Insurers Working Closely with Clubs
Each AXA insurer directly supports a club in its local area and builds relationships with the players, volunteers, and families. The clubs bring the partnership to life on their social media using the hashtag #FemmesDeTerrain.
Through “Femmes de Terrain,” AXA embodies the vision of an insurer committed to promoting women’s sports, from the French national rugby team all the way down to the amateur level.
